Afrocat began her music career in 1999, where she began performing her poetry on London's open-mic circuit. With the vision of combining her lyrics with music, Afrocat trained in sound engineering at Mute records. With a fine upbringing in funk, soul, reggae, ska, classical Indian and African music, Afrocat's love of only the greatest of sounds began. Besides incorporating these eclectic styles into her own production, it reached the time when her unique collection of records deserved to be shared. Before long, Afrocat began to DJ with various soundsystems and also built up her own residencies around London and the UK's club scene. At clubs, festivals, private parties and radio stations, her music has been well-loved wherever she has played. From 2000, Afrocat's blend of funk, dub, jazz, reggae, afrobeat, hip-hop and Latin reached international audiences. She has had DJ appearances or residencies in New York, L.A (Dub Club, Respect, Electric Lotus), New Orleans, Trinidad & Tobago and earlier this year in Dubai (Royal Mirage's Rooftop Bar). Afrocat has also performed her spoken word at open-mic nights in San Francisco, New Orleans and at Miami's World Music Conference. Her first EP presents three tracks that fuse spoken word, dub and hip-hop with a splash of a few other elements! (click here to listen) Her original tunes have proved to be a hit with other artists, producers, DJS and any listener who has had the pleasure of hearing them! Currently finishing her extended EP, due for release at the end of 2006, Afrocat promises a few more lovely surprises! Afrocat's passion, her audiences positive response and exciting collaborations, means that you will be hearing a lot more fantastic music from her!
